malawi update

You know how I posted the pictures below of the living arrangements in Malawi? Well, we got word yesterday that we will NOT be living on the mission compound afterall. There are pros and cons to this arrangment. We have decided to just take it with stride and make the most and best out of whatever is given to us. We were told yesterday that either an apartment or house will be rented for us. Our housing will probably be closer into the city. We were also given the choice to live with the George's (Kayla and Jonathan, our dear friends that will be going to Malawi with us.) After discussing it with them last night, we have decided that "communal living" is what we would like to pursue. :) We are excited. There will be a time of setting up the boundaries and "house rules" of living together...but for the most part, we feel like this makes more sense financially, for our safety and for our goal of making relationships with Malawians. We are praying for a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom situation...that would be ideal. It's so exciting for these details to be coming together...it won't be long until we board that plane headed for 12 months in Africa. Can you believe it?

So, I just realized that you guys have this blog...

Don't be discouraged by the change in plans... being outside of the mission compounds are a really great way to be able to do life with nationals... not that you couldn't accomplish that by living in a compound... I just think it will be good.

The pictures in that previous post made me miss cooking in my kitchen!
