One of my favorite things in the whole wide world is being an Auntie! So far we have 4 nieces, one lives in Charlotte on Daniel's side of the family and the other three live in northern VA and belong to two of my brothers. This week I am up in VA spending the whole week with two of my nieces...Anna and Bella...while my brother and sister in law are away in FL. Thank goodness for our latest obsession with the live video camera on the computers and thank goodness for Skype! :) Justin and Sophia took their laptop with a video cam so it has been fun seeing them and having the girls talk to them and have mommy and papa sing night-night songs to them before bedtime. Anna is 3 1/2 and loves seeing them on the "puter" but doesn't understand the concept of them being on the computer yet so far away! :) Last night she wanted to "jump" into where they were. ha ha...it was cute!
Daniel and I got a new computer last month (macbook--LOVE it) so today I shot some video of Bella eating some puffs from her chair. (she is such a happy baby ALL the time--I am not kidding). I realized that today was her 9 month birthday so I played with my imovie application and made a very simple video. I can't wait to figure the video thing out more but for now here is the best that I can do. And before anyone leaves comments, I realize that my "slicing" technique needs work and I also realize that I can be pretty cheesy while talking to my nieces! :)
I better sign off, eat a quick lunch, wake Bella from her nap, make a bottle for the car and go pick up Anna from her camp. Life is busy being a hands-on auntie this week!

wedding album
Yes, I just received my wedding album in the mail today. Our photographer gave us all the digital pictures to do whatever we wanted with them, it just has taken me a year to make an album but it was so worth it. I want to tell everyone about the company that I used...its amazing. This company is called My Publisher...www.mypublisher.com. I know that shutteryfly and other companies make their own coffee-table type books so I am not sure about their quality but all the projects that I have ever done with My Publisher have turned out beautiful! The wedding album is the first BIG book that I did...you can see by the picture that the album cover is black leather with a picture insert. The binding is exceptional and the quality of the photos are amazing. If you are looking to do a photobook My Publisher is the way to go. In addition to the quick services they also have coupons and Costco discounts. Another reason to say Yahooo for Costco!
the great puppy escape
Here is a little video from my visit to see the puppies at Kayla and Jonathan's house--I remembered to bring my camera this time. The puppies are as cute as ever and have outgrown their cage/box so now they are kept in the basement area...so when the door opens they try and make their escape into the outside world. They have learned to crawl up the stairs, its so cute. Everyone knows I am not that much of a dog lover--but if we didn't live in a condo I am sure that we would walk away with one of these little puppies. My fav is the chocolate brown puppy--but they are all so cute. There are a few left, so if you are interested and want to take a trip to Charlotte to see Daniel and I you may also want to think about picking up one of these little pups!

I have a job!!
Whoa--is it really the middle of July 2008?! Holy cow...this year has gone by fast. Only 5 more months until Christmas--start saving! :)
I don't know about anyone else but this summer has been extremely busy for Daniel and I, the past 8 weeks in particular. Here's what I have been juggling in my weekly schedule!
1. The last 3 classes for my degree--2 EDU and 1 SOC. Tuesday and Thursday nights until 9pm for one class, the other 2 were online.
2. Children's Theatre of Charlotte--working full day weeks @ the Theatre teaching drama camps for preschool and primary.
3. Looking for a teaching job for the fall.
4. Leading a "Creation Care" small group with my friend Kayla--it was only 4 weeks but still was time-consuming with planning.
5. Greenhouse--our church's children's ministry--still leading that to an extent especially with some summer changes coming up and organizing the Sunday lesson plans for the older elementary children each week.
It may only look like a short list of 5 items, but all of it has been eating my time and energy! I am so thankful that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. My classes are ending this next week, my small group is finishing this Saturday and as of yesterday I have a job for the fall! :) I'm super excited about it. I'll be teaching a new TK class that the school is adding this school year. TK means "transitional kindergarten" which is a 4 year old program with a little bit more academic twist than most preschool programs. This TK will be a full day--which will be good for me. I had really been praying about this school and position and had perfect peace while I was meeting with the lower school principal and head master. The passions and mission of the school totally lines up with me and my education philosophy. I'm sure that I will have more to share as I get into the school year...but for now I can cross it off the list and be thankful for God's provision! www.ufca.org for those that are interested.

If you know anyone that is interested in a cute little puppy...we know where to find them! A couple of weeks ago (4) I told you about our friends whose dogs had puppies...well, here is a recent picture of a few! They have sold 2 of the puppies so far. But the puppies are walking, growing and have their eyes opened now...just waiting for a good home!

cleanup
the end of the story...
After locking myself in my room for a couple of hours to focus on my school work, I decided to run to the store and get things that I need to make for tomorrow's festivities and also because i have no more paper towels. Yes, I needed paper towels to clean up the mess Mr. Bird left all over my house...the living room, dining room and kitchen!! Of course I was out of paper towels when I needed them.
So I made my list and ran out the door...leaving the living room a mess for Daniel when he got home. When I came home he was home but had not heard (nor read my blog) the rest of the story that the bird had been alive the whole time and the fact that I had no idea where the bird was. So, he did the manly thing and searched behind the 3 pieces of furniture that it could have been behind...all the while laughing at me and telling me that I have spent too much time around the theatre people at work! Mr. Bird was no where in sight...so it must have flown out the door when I had it opened...but I swear I didn't see it!! It is a bird mystery! It did, however, leave behind several messes for me to clean up. Ugh....yuck!

Never never would I have guessed that my morning would have ended up this way. I have way too much to do and now I have barricaded myself in the bedroom--with the essentials: cell, camera, laptop and broom!
I was just sitting there on the couch working away on my school stuff when I heard a loud noise. See, usually I like to leave the door to the balcony opened in the morning to listen to the outside noises, who is coming and going, etc. Without even looking up, I thought, "wow, that bird must be on the balcony it is so loud." Oh was I wrong...I looked up and there he was sitting on top of the opened door squawking at me. Yikes! He flew all over the place...as he was in the dining room trying to get out of the window I ran to the bedroom to get the camera....[yes, fellow bloggers, you are always on my mind. Sorry that the pictures came out a little blurred, I was a little on edge.] So, finally, I braved myself to get into the dining room to force him out the door but he flew all the way into the kitchen. I was so happy because I knew that he saw the open door straight across...I then switched to his biggest cheerleader, "come on, mr. bird, you can do it. Fly straight out. Its there...the light is waiting for you." Well, he missed. He flew straight into the window and hit it hard! BAM! SPLAT! Down he fell behind the corner chair. I was laughing so hard, but then I was flipping out...a dead bird?! Ewww...gross.
So I called Daniel...no answer, in a meeting...I called Sophia, my sister in law, to calm my nerves. I got off the phone and gathered my next set of tools, plastic bags for gloves and a paper bag. As I got closer with my make-shift gloves I thought that I would just poke him with the broom one last time....FLAP, FLAP, FLAP...SSSSSSSSCREAM!!! He's not dead!! So, after a few minutes of stillness I poked again...a few more flaps closer to the door. Well, I don't know what happened because I could have sworn that he didn't fly out the door but I can't find him! Yes, you would think that I would be able to in a small little corner of our 1 bedroom condo, I didn't see him under the bookcase or under the chair...but maybe he is still there? Daniel will be home in an hour, so I have barricaded myself in the bedroom until he gets home to help resolve the mystery of the semi-dead bird.
I just feel a little crazy right now...where could he have gone? I feel a little like Tom Hanks talking to Wilson..."Mr. Bird, where are you?"
to be continued...I just hope I don't get some bird-flu or something from a wild bird...

oh how i love him
Its kinda of fun having an anniversary...I mean, I knew it would be! But this is my first one, so it takes just a little bit of getting used to. I'm talking about another day to celebrate...so far in my 30 years I have always just had my birthday to celebrate...along with the generic holidays like Christmas, etc. Its only been in the last 2 years that I have even gotten used to the fact of celebrating Valentine's Day. Now I have an anniversary! :) I knew it was coming and thought that I was prepared...but not compared to my other half! He was super prepared and put a lot of thought into our first year celebration!
He surprised me with a brand spankin' new Macbook....enter angels voices echoing the Hallalujah chorus. I've officially been a mac book user for 3 years now, but the ibook that I have used this whole time has been obsolete for about 2.5 years of those 3. :) No worries...I just kept right on with it. If you know my IT loving husband, you would know that he is and has always been a PC guy. One walk into the mac store did it...I never had to say another word. But seriously, I didn't know that he was going to get one for the anniversary, we talked about waiting for a while...but he loves to surprise.
This computer is amazing...and so fast! So you know what this means blog readers....a faster computer for faster blogging!! :) Its a win-win for everyone!

A penguin you might ask?? Lets just say it is now the Beach Trip mascot...it mysteriously would show up around the house in random places! Just imagine waking up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom...you open up the door and find the penguin standing there staring at you! funny...
Its official...Daniel and I are working on our 2nd year of marriage! Its hard to imagine that a whole year has gone by since our wedding but it has. This time last year we were on our way to St. Thomas and St. Croix. We have truly been blessed this year in so many ways...especially with our friendships!
This past Friday we set our for our 3rd annual Myrtle Beach trip with our friends. 2 years ago this tradition started with just the girls...now, since all of us friends are married we have included the husbands in on the trip too. Kelly and Chris have a beach house in Myrtle Beach so this past weekend 7 couples crashed it and had a wonderful time! We did our usual crab leg feast on Saturday night (the beach trip tradition). Most everyone left on Sunday...Daniel and I along with Matt and Rachael stayed until Tuesday afternoon. We didn't want to leave...
Daniel and I got away for dinner Monday night to celebrate our anniversary! We, of course, had seafood...yum!!
We had a blast...it was so great to celebrate our anniversary weekend with our friends...all of them were a part of our wedding day and now a year later, all of them were a part of our anniversary! We truly have amazing friends!
