Emma
Despite starting school this past Thursday, trying to get my arms around my curriculum, waking up at the crack of dawn and just being plain ole' exhausted, yes, despite of all that we had a fabulous weekend with our 15 month old niece Emma. Emma and her parents (Daniel's brother) live here in Charlotte. This was Emma's first time being left over night and she did great! We did great together! It was so much fun to have one-on-one time with her, laughing, playing, talking, shopping! She loves to talk to us in her own little language though she does have a few words that she is mastering. Her favorite "word" this weekend was "button" as she pulled up her shirt and anyone else that was sitting close to her..."button" she says, and pokes you like the Pillsbury dough boy! She is so sweet and was quite content with her Auntie and Uncle Daniel. When we are all together with the family she never wants to go to Daniel or her other uncle, she just cries and reaches for mommy so we were very interested to see how she would do for the weekend with Uncle Daniel! By Saturday night she was laying with him on the couch, kissing him and running to him! The milestone merited the camera and a blog post for sure! Daniel and I love being auntie and uncle to our 4 nieces!! We love all of our girls! (the oldest is starting preschool on Monday--wow!)

First Day of School
I know its only 1:35 in the afternoon and I am posting about my first day of school...I'm so efficient (the wireless in the school helps)! The truth is that TK and Kindergarten have half days the first two days of school which I am just so thankful for. My room is coming along but I still need a few more things to organize and get for the room.
The first day was great! I only have 8 students currently in my class so it is the perfect amount! I am thankful for the 6 girls and 2 boys ratio this year as opposed to the 5 boys and 3 girls that I had last year in my 3 year old class! Hopefully I won't be known as the "loud" class this year!
As I stated earlier my school this year is a Christian Prep school ranging from TK (thats me--Transitional Kindergarten) to 12th grade! I love being in a much bigger school--the energy that the high school brings is so fun! There are even 12 international students and one from Sudan! Anyway, this school is great and is not like the kinds of Christian schools that I grew up in--stuffy, cookie-cutter, legalistic, etc. Instead this school is so full of the understanding of grace and love. The theme for this year comes from 1 Peter 3:8-9, "Be the Blessing"! So I adapted the theme for my door to start the school year!

my new classroom
Well...summer has almost come to a close down here in Charlotte! It has been quite a busy summer. Last summer was pretty busy too with the wedding, honeymoon and job changes, but this summer seemed even more hectic! Don't get me wrong it was still very fun and full of adventure!
So now with my college classes behind me and my summer drama camp job checked off the list, it seems that my summer has come to an end. In fact I started my new job at my new school this past Monday morning. Let me say that I have been in a lot...and I mean A LOT...of private, Christian schools throughout my life...this one tops them all! This school is a TK-12th grade Christian Prep Academy. I can already tell that it is going to be a great year! I am teaching TK (Transitional Kindergarten) this year which is just a fancy term for what used to be called Pre-K.
My class is a new classroom as they added a second section of TK this year. To be in compliance with the NC accreditation standards my class needed a little people's bathroom so the entire room has been under construction for a month now and was just finished today...only 1 day late! :) So needless to say there is SO much to do...and if you have been a teacher before in a new school you can understand my stress of getting everything in place before orientation night and First Day! I was a little on edge today with all that needed to be done...so I took pictures of the room so I could go home and get my "creative juices" flowing!
Below are my "Before" pictures...I will be sure to take plenty of pictures when all is said and done!

the week in va
As I mentioned in the below posts, we had a great week in VA with my family. I babysat two of my nieces from Saturday morning until Friday morning!
Friday afternoon we picked up Anna from her half-day summer camp and headed out to the Reston Petting Zoo. As kids we would pass the Reston Zoo everyday on our way to school but I never had been. I had remembered it while I was up in VA but knew there was no way that I could manage a 9 month old and a fast 3 1/2 year old by myself...so we waited for Friday morning when everyone could join us. Here are some pictures.

this picture cracks me up...Bella was freaked out in the "goat house", there were so many goats and they were all on her level with only a short fence that separated her from them.
Chloe and Teresa came to the zoo with us too! She is so cute with her big blue eyes!

The zoo had a tractor ride out to the field where all the big animals were. They flocked to the tractor and loved being pet by all the visitors! Anna loved it!!

crazy girl
We had fun today playing with the camera on the computer...Anna is a crazy girl and loves to see herself in all the silly backgrounds and funky graphics. We love her and the other nieces and will miss them so much when we leave tomorrow to head back to NC.
